If you care to publish a profitable ezine you will need to get the ezine in front of people to read. You could stand on a street corner and give away copies, or mail it to anybody that happens to be on your friends list. But if you did, profit would be hit or miss. Finding and cleaning a good direct mail list is a better way to market a profitable ezine and one that may get you the results you are looking for.

Traditional versus electronic

To market an ezine use both traditional and electronic methods when gathering names. Traditional means buying a list of names and possibly e-mails. Electronic means laying out a website that asks for voluntary e-mail addresses. One form costs and may lead to valid subscribers, the other gauges casual interest and costs next to nothing. In either case, you will still need to clean the names to create a profitable ezine.

Cleaning the list

Regardless of the list type you end up with you will need to clean it. Chances are, the purchased list has quite a bit of “filler” names while the electronic list will have a few electronic program names. Make sure you can send back any “fillers” you find on the bought list. Remember, however, that in the end you should look at each name if you want a better chance to publish a profitable ezine. Ultimately, spending time on a solid mailing list will get you part of the results you are looking for.
